Action Alert: Stop Medicaid Cuts

The United States Senate is on the verge of dramatically cutting Medicaid funding to the tune of $600 billion dollars annually, posing high risk to home care and hospice. Theses extremely important matters are proceeding without the benefit of public hearings or sufficient transparency on crucial legislation that will affect one-sixth of our nation’s economy. The Per Capita Caps Medicaid model under consideration cap the federal government’s share of Medicaid expenses and shift unmet needs to the states. This is likely to result in decreased funding to the states. Each state must then come up with additional funding, or make cuts to Medicaid benefits. Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) are optional benefits and thereby face the greatest risks when funding is limited.

Among the Medicaid changes passed by the House is the elimination of the Community First Choice Program, which was designed to accelerate the rebalancing of Medicaid spending towards care in the home. We believe that this program should continue.

It is vital that you contact your Senators and let them know how these cuts will affect patients, you, and your business. Nationally, there are nearly 20,000 providers of Medicaid home care and hospice services, employing over 2 million workers. While a message from an agency CEO or other executive is helpful, our efforts can be greatly amplified by your staff engaging, too. Our community has the numbers to make a mark with members of Congress and now is the time to do so! NAHC recommends that you encourage your staff to let their voices be heard in support of home care and hospice and allow them a few minutes to send Congress their message through the NAHC Legislative Action Center.

Having your voice and the voices of your staff heard is just a few clicks away.  Just go here to use NAHC’s virtual advocacy site. It’s a simple process that takes less than one minute.
